Sunlight streams through the crack of an open door and a bare window, falling gently on the old plank floor, more harshly on the white painted table top in this scene typical of the early 1800s. The room is part of the sutler store at Fort Atkinson in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. A set of vintage checkers on the table invites visitors to sit down and enjoy a game.
