Description
Elephant Rock is a geological landform called a sea stack located near Bandon and Coos Bay, Oregon. The rock formation, which from one perspective looks like the head of a submerged elephant, is seen here from Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint. You can also see a sea cave, formed by erosion over time. The force of the ocean crashing against the rock weakened an existing crack and eventually created this hole or tunnel through the stone. On the wide, sandy beach below, a single human figure adds scale to this seascape.
