In the early spring, the blossoms of the globemallow turn the desert areas of the American Southwest orange with their hardy, cup-shaped blossoms. I photographed this pretty little flower in southern Arizona in early March. I was raised in central New Mexico where the landscape can seem, well, relentless. Hardy wildflowers such as these bring the seemingly barren earth to life.
