Artist's Description

This tender mother-child animal portrait, "Love Me Tender", speaks of love and bonding. A female spider monkey cradles her baby lovingly and protectively while the juvenile peers out from under her arm with curiosity. The enfant was five months old when this photo was taken in the zoo jungle where they live.

The brown-headed spider monkey (Ateles fusciceps fusciceps) is a South American monkey native to the tropical forests of northwestern Ecuador. It is on the critically endangered list.
