This small cluster of mushrooms which I believe to be Coprinellus micaceus, was growing in a large knothole in the bark of a flowering fruit tree in our yard. I noticed it, went for my camera, took a few photos, went in and showed them to my husband. By the time he went out, they were already beginning to decompose. By the next day they were a shriveled, black mass and, had you not seen them the day before, you would not have known they'd ever been there. From what I've read, they are edible though they begin to decompose almost immediately after collection. I didn't try them, but the grouping reminded me of one of those dense villages built up a very steep hillside, hence the fanciful title.
I use my camera to explore the world around me and as a basis for creative expression. Because I live in Nebraska, I have a fondness for rural scenes that will be evident as you explore my images, but I enjoy traveling and have many other interests as well. I hope you enjoy your visit.
