Description
This is a sunset view of the Platte River from the old railroad bridge at the Fort Kearney campground outside of Kearney, Nebraska. In the spring, the sandhill cranes migrate through this area on their way to their northern breeding grounds in the hundreds of thousands. They fly in from their winter grounds in the Southwest and northern Mexico and spend three weeks to a month feeding in the fields around the Platte by day, returning to the river at nightfall. You can see flocks in the sky here.
