Artist's Description

"Prairie Sunrise" is the name of the quilt block pattern on the front of this old barn in Cass County, Nebraska. The barn dates from 1888 and is on a farm that is still in the family of the original homesteaders. It is of mortise and tenon construction, designed and built by Herman Schmidt. The barn has a gambrel style roof. It has now been wired for electricity, but I took the liberty of removing the wires so that the original lines of the barn could be more clearly seen and appreciated.
