A small family of mallards, a drake and hen led by their single duckling, strikes out across the lagoon at Gene Leahy mall near the Old Market in Omaha, Nebraska. It's a beautiful, cloudless summer morning and the ducks and I are taking advantage of the beautiful weather and early morning quiet. In the background you can see a number of the locally well-known buildings of downtown: from right to left are the Omaha World Herald building, the First national Bank tower (tallest), the Woodmen Tower (center, back), the Central Park Plaza complex, (orange, on angles to one another), and the W. Dale Clark Library, the city's main public library.
