I learned something new when I photographed this sunflower facing east - that's what they do once they are mature. They follow the sun as they are beginning to open - known as heliotropism- but once in full bloom, they face east. The field this lovely specimen was in was at its peak and almost all the blossoms were facing east with the very late afternoon sun behind them and dropping in the west.
