An American flag flying from the ends of the extended ladders of two fire engines has become a common symbol of tribute at ceremonies to honor fallen heroes as well as at Independence Day celebrations in the United States. If a flag is hung between two aerial rigs, as here, it should be suspended vertically with the union to the north in an east and west street or to the east in a north and south street.
