A snow-covered bench placed at one of the curves in the biking and walking path that surrounds Walnut Creek Lake in Sarpy County, Nebraska. In summer, the trees on the left offer a bit of welcome shade from the late afternoon sun; in winter their leafless branches trace a delicate pattern against the sky. The large old tree on the right is dead; its base and roots were submerged when a flood-control dam, just visible on the horizon, was built in the late 1990's. Though a few trees were lost, the project created a 450 acre public recreation area, a quarter of which is covered by a large reservoir or lake. In addition to walking and biking, fishing, camping and picnicking are also available.
I have added a subtle blue texture to the scene to enhance its cool, lonely mood.
