Description
The quiver tree (Aloidendron dichotomum), also known as the kokerboom, is a succulent from the deserts of South Africa and southern Namibia. Native peoples hollowed out its tubular branches to form quivers for their arrows, hence the English name. The plant is cultivated in arid areas around the world, but it is difficult to maintain and grows slowly. It needs specialized soil, good drainage, full sun, and it’s easier to over-water than to under-water it. It is also very vulnerable to insect infestations. Its three species are considered vulnerable, critically endangered, and endangered, and it is on the decline even in its native area.
