Description
Timber phlox (Phlox divaricata), is a woodland wildflower that flowers in the spring. Each blossom has five petals that come together and form a narrow tube at the base. This plant must be cross-pollinated in order to produce seed, so pollinators are important in its life-cycle. Only long-tongued pollinators can sip the nectar though other pollinators may gather the pollen. I spotted this one blooming off a trail in Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue, Nebraska.
