Description
This enormous arch in Bryce Canyon is called Natural Bridge or Bryce Natural Bridge. It's one of a number of arches throughout the park but particularly well known because there is a viewpoint on the highway from which it can easily be seen and enjoyed. Erosion is largely responsible for the main elements of the scene: the hoodoos across the top and to the left of the arch, the opening or window itself, and the sloping sides of the canyon which, as you can see, show the signs of water run-off through the ages. The rock is high in iron oxide which accounts for the red color. In the foreground on the left are some small quaking aspen, already turning yellow as winter approaches; and through the opening you can see the Ponderosa pine forests on the slope beyond.
