Description
The tricolor (sometimes written as two words; sometimes hyphenated) beech (Fagus sylvatica) is an unusually pretty spring and summer shade tree. It does not flower in spring, but instead adds color to a garden or yard with its unusual foliage. In early spring, the leaves are purple or pink. As the season progresses, they become variegated and add silvery white, cream, and green to the purple. At one point in time, the overall effect is of a tree dressed in pink. This ornamental tree is round and compact, and it can stand as high as 50 feet when mature.
