Description
A sandhill crane (Grus canadensis) is sitting; one might think it's nesting, but perhaps it is most likely simply resting - we all do that from time to time, you know - in an open area. The pose is sedate, almost regal. The bird's distinctive red forehead stands out from the rest of its grayish plumage. These migratory birds spend a couple of weeks in Nebraska on their trip north to breeding grounds in the early spring.
