Description
I was sitting at a window table in a restaurant, waiting for our meal, when the spiral bound drinks menu, standing upright on the table, caught my eye. It reflected in the shiny surface and the sunlight came through the holes, outlining the coil of the binding clearly. Taken by the design, I grabbed my camera (never far from me) and started snapping pictures. I call the resulting image "Wound Up".
When it comes to books - or notebooks, as the case may be - spiral and coil binding are interchangeable terms. They describe a method of joining pages and cover using a plastic or metal coil shaped like a long spring. In other situations, a spiral is a curve that, while rotating about a fixed point, continuously increases its distance from that point. A coil is simply something wound in the form or shape of a spiral or helix.
