Description
I love the subtle geometry farmland, from the parallel lines of the rows of corn across the top of the rise in the distance and the bright yellow triangle of fall soybeans in the mid-field to the implied quadrilateral shapes (trapezoid, rectangle, rhombus) of the foreground. In the Midwest, both soybeans and field corn are often left in the fields to dry before they are harvested. In autumn the leaves of the soy plant turn yellow, and for a few days patches of gold dot the countryside. The nearest crop is soybeans, too, though I think the plants in the center of this field were unable to survive the summer's drought. On the horizon a tidy farm, its large, white barn and gleaming metal grain storage bins well-defined against the blue sky, completes the rural scene in Eastern Iowa.
