Description
High pressure hose (fire hose or firehose) carry water or other fire retardants to extinguish flames. They may attach to a fire engine, a hydrant, or the plumbing system of a building. Modern hoses can be made of natural or synthetic fabrics that allow for their being stored wet. They are also available in a variety of colors. Here you see blue and green hoses, still coiled in the truck. The different colors are used by various departments for a variety of reasons. Some use one color per truck, others code by size, length, or use (in which case the discharges, drain valves, discharge valve handles, and nozzles match the hose color), and I am sure other departments have different reasons for which they consider the colors useful. For sure it’s not just because they are pretty – but they are :)
