Description
The wonderful variety of shapes, textures and colors of these members of the Cucurbita family of fruits includes what are commonly known as squashes, gourds, and pumpkins. The differences among these are mainly related to their use. The plants we call squash in English are fleshy and edible. Those we commonly refer to as gourds are much harder on the surface and have much less pulp inside; while they can be eaten, they are hardly worth the trouble and are generally used for autumn decorations.
