Description
While walking along the streets in my neighborhood one day in mid autumn, I noticed the color the fallen leaves that had collected in the gutters and cracks added the ordinary city patterns. I took several photos and selected three for a composite which I uploaded with the title "Gutter Abstract Triptych". This is one of them. The metal plate on the left is highly textured and the small dots and larger circles, regularly arranged in rows, create a definite design. The plate is placed at a corner where a sidewalk meets the street. The visually impaired can feel the raised bumps (you may see them as indentations or holes) which alert them to listen and wait for turning or passing vehicles. Small pebbles and stones collect in the cracks between the plate and the curb as well as at the bottom of the curb where it meets the concrete of the street. They, too, add interest to this urban abstract.
