Description
The red poppy, memorialized in John McCrae's poem "In Flanders Field", has become the symbol for Remembrance Day. Celebrated as such on November 11 in the Commonwealth of Nations, the holiday is also known as Armistice Day and Veterans Day in other parts of the world and commemorates the end of World War I. This image is also available with the text of the first two and a half lines of the poem on it in my Illustrated Texts gallery.
