Description
This pretty cascade is the waterfall on the hike to Mossy Cave in Bryce Canyon National Park in the high desert of southern Utah. The trail is the northernmost in the park. It's not that long - less than a mile round trip - and though it's a bit of a climb to reach this viewpoint, the return is, of course, a descent (always welcome in my book). It is located in Water Canyon - strictly and geologically speaking not a canyon and, because of the presence of flowing water, it's unique among Bryce canyons. At this point in the stream’s course, the rock is dolomite, limestone strengthened by magnesium; that is what allowed the creation of the waterfall.
