Description
This very late afternoon view of the hoodoos at Sunset Point in Bryce Canyon National Park is, as I recall, to the southeast. Here the amazingly detailed hoodoos and the more solid looking fins for which the canyon is famous abound in what is known as the Silent City. The colors in the rock are caused by mineral deposits: iron oxide gives the oranges, reds, and yellows; manganese oxide adds pink and purple; the limestone in the whiter area lacks mineral impurities.
