Description
The unusual blossom of the Passiflora incarnata is commonly known as the passion flower, so called because, especially in Roman Catholic countries, its is considered a symbol of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. A vining plant - you can see one of its tendrils at the top of the frame here, it is popular in pollinator gardens because a number of butterflies and moths feed on it. The flowers only bloom for three days and this one was past its prime. Its few remaining petals can barely be seen between the filaments of the corona.
