Description
It may look like it's snowing, but it's not. Those are snow geese in flight - maybe a sight like this is what inspired their name. These birds, Anser caerulecens (previously Chen caerulescens), migrate through the Midwest every fall and spring. One area where you can count on seeing them is at the wetlands, especially the National and State Wildlife Reserves, in eastern Nebraska and northwestern Missouri. I took this photograph at Loess Bluffs NWR near Mound City, MO.
