Description
The halcyon hosta is known for its large leaves which are pointed and roughly heart-shaped. They are an attractive blue-green in color and maintain their color throughout the growing summer. Once mature, the foliage is very dense and grows in rounded, uniform clumps. The plant is shade loving and, indeed, tolerates at most only a couple of hours of sun a day. Hosta flowers are small and form on very long stems called scapes. Those of this cultivar are lavendar in color. Since they are not showy, some gardeners cut them off when they begin to form, but like all flowers, they are important to pollinating insects and I leave mine alone.
