Description
This grouping of wildflowers is typical of the Maximilian Sunflower (Helianthus maximiliani); the flower heads grow on their own stalks as well as from leaf axils. They are often found in large numbers together or in colonies, and that was the case of the field I found. Also called a michaelmas daisy, they are native to American prairies and are considered desirable range plants because such a wide variety of livestock and wildlife feed on them.
