Description
The northern velvet gecko (Oedura castelnaui) is arboreal and usually hard to spot as it prefers to hide under leaves or peeling bark or in crevices rather than climb up and over tree branches as stumps as here. This particular specimen is amelanistic which means it has an abnormality in the pigment (melanin) that gives coloration to the skin and is lighter than most. These lizards are native and restricted to northern Australia.
